Who appoints people to those commisions? Why are these positions non-elected? What do local commissions do, anyway?
Our member's findings will be presented, and there will be plenty of time for questions and answers!

Over 51% of non-voters are angry and disgusted with politicians and the political process, according to a poll by the Harvard University/ Washington Post Vanishing Voter Project. Over 70% of non-voters are actually registered to vote, but opt out. What can we do? What should we do? Let's talk about solutions to the problem.

Join in a rally to educate the public and support universal health care for all Californians. Stay for part or all of this event. There will be a clown with puppets and balloons for the children.

This event is one of 365 throughout the state to support Senate Bill 84, which was passed by the Legislature but vetoed by the Governor. The luncheon speaker, Geraldine Knatz, Ph.D., Executive Director of the Port of Los Angeles, will speak on "From Ship to Shelf." Dr. Knatz administers and implements the policies of the Board of Harbor Commissioners. She will give an update on subjects such as the new "green" ships, the future of trade at the port, port security, and funds for environmental mitigation.
